About Us

We are the City of London Police. A diverse police force that covers a square mile of the City Centre of London.

Policing the Square Mile brings with it particular challenges, quite unlike any other policing area within the UK.​​​​​​ We are around 800 police officers strong Force who police some of the busiest, most iconic locations in the UK.

We strive to make the City the safest place in the UK and continue to protect and serve the Community we police on a daily basis. We are the National lead for Fraud investigations and have phenomenal success in prosecutions in this police area.

From the fraud investigation to corporate communication, scientific support to counter terrorism, our departments aim to make the City of London safer by:

- Upholding the law fairly and firmly
- Preventing crime and antisocial behaviour
- Keeping the peace
- Protecting and reassuring the community
- Investigating crime and bringing offenders to justice.​

Each department is part of one of our four directorates.

Crime Investigation

The Crime Investigation Directorate encompasses a number of departments that provide the force with the ability to respond to all tiers of criminality, 24/7.

Dealing with the threat of serious and organised crime and terrorism though to day to day acquisitive criminality and violent crime.

Economic Crime

The Economic Crime Department is dedicated to preventing and investigating fraud and is the Lead Force for economic crime investigation.

Intelligence and Information

The Intelligence and Information Directorate is the single co-ordinating hub responsible for all intelligence and information management. It provides all contact management and is the first point of contact for the initial reporting, assessment, screening and allocation of crimes.

Uniformed Policing

Uniformed Policing Directorate covers all aspects of uniformed policing including response and provides specialist skills and support, on a regular basis, to other Directorates within the force and outside forces.​​​​​​

ATOC RAIL TRAVEL CONCESSION

The ATOC Rail Travel Concession allows regular serving police officers to travel on National Rail services within a 70 mile radius of London for a small monthly cost. This is a taxable benefit that the City of London Police negotiates and Officers make a contribution to the cost of the scheme.

Employees may apply for an Annual Season Ticket Loan from the City of London Corporation to cover their journey between home and the workplace.

The type of jobs we recruit for?

We are currently recruiting for Police Officers/Detectives .

There are two entry routes to becoming a Police Officer with the City of London Police:

1.Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship Programme (PCDA)

2.Degree Holder Entry Programme (DHEP)

1. Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship Programme (PCDA) minimum time: 3 years

This route is for people applying to be a Police Officer, who do not already have a degree.

Join as a constable and follow an apprenticeship in professional policing practice – you earn while you learn. This route normally takes three years and is jointly provided by Coventry University and City of London Police. It consists of a mixture of classroom based learning and ‘on the job’ training. On successfully finishing the programme, you complete your probation and achieve a degree.

2. Degree Holder Entry Programme (DHEP) minimum time: 2 years

This route is for people applying to be a Police Officer, who already have a degree.

If you have a degree in any subject, you can join and follow a work based programme, supported by off the job learning. This route take two years and is jointly provided by Coventry University and City of London Police. The learning you receive is recognised in a graduate diploma in professional policing. It consists of a mixture of classroom based learning and ‘on the job’ training.
