About Us

Mears is one of the UK’s leading housing and care providers to both the public and private sector, with over 6,500 employees, our business is founded in local communities where we deliver the highest standards of care to people, their homes and their environment. A desire to make a positive difference wherever we operate has always been at the heart of our business. It was 30 years ago when we were a small maintenance contractor with a single van; and it still is now we are a truly national company.

We hold the Home Office Asylum Accommodation and Support Contract (AASC), where we provide housing and welfare signposting support to all asylum seekers residing in Scotland. We are one of the first points of contact for new arrivals into the country, supporting them at all stages of their journey from their initial housing induction through to moving on support or appeals following the outcome of their decision. We do this through close working with a variety of key stakeholders such as Migrant Help, the NHS, local authorities, the third sector and community groups.

Mears is committed to ensuring that asylum accommodation is safe and habitable and will meet all contractual and regulatory standards. Moreover, Mears understands the importance of supporting each person whilst living in its accommodation.

What it’s like to work for us?

One of the many reasons that our colleagues decide on a career with Mears, is our emphasis on being a socially responsible business and giving back to the communities in which we operate. Our work brings us into contact with some of the most vulnerable people in society. As we grow, so do the opportunities and our sense of responsibility to make a positive difference.

We are proud to be on the list of the Sunday Times 25 Best Big Companies to Work For, and on the Social Mobility Index of the top 75 employers in the UK for our commitment to social mobility. We have a national Workforce Group that is responsible for setting the approach to staff engagement and each local branch has a People plan, which sets out what it will do in each year.

Working on the AASC with Mears is an extremely rewarding job where you will work alongside a passionate team who play a significant role contributing to positive lived experiences of asylum seekers residing in Scotland. There is a large onus on us, not only to provide accommodation of a good quality standard, but also to make a positive impact in an Asylum Seeker’s life by providing them with the relevant practical guidance & welfare support to assist them in their day to-day lives within a new country.
