About Us

Cambridgeshire Constabulary is proud to serve the diverse communities of Cambridgeshire and help protect a population of more than 800,000.

We employ:

• 1,449 police officers
• 60 PCSOs
• 159 special constables
• 581 police staff

Cambridgeshire remains one of the safest counties in the country due to our focus on safeguarding the most vulnerable, supporting victims of crime and robustly investigating and bringing offenders to justice.

We continue to look at new and better ways to deliver a policing service, which includes making the best use of new technology and working to better understand and manage demand to allow us to respond and adapt to the needs of the public and help create a safer Cambridgeshire.

What it’s like to work for us?

The role of a police officer is critical in maintaining public safety and order and you will handle things most people never experience in their lives.

Your mental, emotional and physical capabilities will be tested as you deal with difficult and, on occasion, violent individuals.

At times you will be working alone on patrol and you will maintain a professional approach throughout, no matter what the situation. You’ll be part of a unique organisation, working with inspiring colleagues who understand the risks and rewards of the job.

You’ll be highly trained and well-supported throughout your service as you help countless people through some of the most difficult situations they have faced, supporting victims and witnesses and providing reassurance in the community.

Our force offers the opportunity to work in a highly diverse and rapidly expanding area of the country.

From the inner city locations of Peterborough and Cambridge, to the countryside communities of Fenland. Major road networks to national and international events such as the East of England Show - the variety of a career with the force is always challenging.

We are committed to equal opportunities. We value the principles and practices of excellence and equality in both the policing services we deliver and in the way we recruit, develop, train and employ our teams.

Providing a wide range of career opportunities, specialist posts and promotion prospects, Cambridgeshire Constabulary is a great choice for officers wishing to transfer.

The type of jobs we recruit for?

The recruitment and training process for police officers in Cambridgeshire has changed and we are introducing the Policing Education Qualifications Framework (PEQF).

We currently have a couple of options open to potential candidates:

The Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA)

This is a great opportunity for those who have not studied at a degree level to be entered onto our three-year degree apprenticeship which involves a combination of in class learning and on the job experience. A modern degree-based education is no longer purely academic, there is now a strong emphasis on the development and application of professional practice in the workplace which this route provides.

The tuition fees for the degree will be covered by the force, you will also receive a salary of £24,780 upon joining. Essentially you will earn while you learn and by the end of your probationary period you would have achieved a degree whilst also being paid a competitive salary. We welcome applications from all backgrounds and this opportunity is open to all who do not have a degree.

The entry requirements for PCDA are GCSE maths and English (grade 4-9/C or above) or Level 2 Functional Skills in Literacy and Numeracy (undertaken in England) and 2x Level 3 qualifications equivalent to UCAS points of 64+ (i.e. 2 x A level grade C, BTEC MPP/MM or equivalent) which must be evidenced with valid certificates.

For candidates that do not have A levels or equivalent at the grades mentioned above, but have between 32 and 63 UCAS points and with two years relevant experience in the following areas (or four years in the armed forces), we will ask you to complete an online assessment and have a further discussion with you.

The Degree Holder Entry Programme (DHEP)

The Degree Holder Entry Programme (DHEP) is an alternative route through which you can become a substantive ranked Police Constable. At the end of the two year practical programme, you can earn a Graduate Diploma in Professional Policing Practice whilst embarking on an exciting career with our force.

The Academic cost of this degree is covered solely by Cambridgeshire Constabulary. Whilst studying, you will also receive a salary of £24,780 which will rise each year as you gain the relevant skills and experience.
